About the VP-CIO
Elias G. Eldayrie
Elias G. Eldayrie was named Vice President and Chief Information Officer for the University of Florida in 2010. Elias is responsible for the strategic planning and development of Information Technology (IT) at UF; including all policies, staff management and organizational development, central IT operations, and administration of all enterprise computing systems.
The IT units reporting directly to Elias are Academic Technology, Research Computing, Enterprise Infrastructure & Operations, Enterprise Systems, the Information Security Office, Technology Support Services, and the UFIT Business Center. Reporting jointly to Elias and the corresponding Sr. Vice Presidents are Health Science Center Information Technology, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Information Technology and E & G Information Technology. As Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Elias has responsibility for the IT Governance Committees and collaborates with other University of Florida stakeholders to advance the mission of the university.
Elias previously served as the Chief Information Officer at the University at Buffalo (UB), the largest public university in New York. As CIO for UB, Eldayrie led senior leadership and key stakeholders in developing the first campus-wide strategic plan for information technology, aligning IT resources across campus with the academic and business needs of the university, and establishing partnerships with UB senior leadership and members of key constituencies.
At UB Elias also led enterprise resource planning (ERP) and the Service Mapping and IT Transformation initiatives, transforming IT services and the IT organizational structure by consolidating services and moving to a standards-based, shared services infrastructure. In addition, Eldayrie served UB in a variety of administrative positions during his 23 years at Buffalo. He was named associate vice president for information technology in 2000 and CIO in 2006.
In addition to his administrative duties, Eldayrie was an adjunct assistant professor in the School of Management. He also taught internationally at Grodno State University in Belarus, Budapest Technical School in Hungary, and the Riga Business School in Latvia.
Elias has received numerous awards, including the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service, a Sallie MAE Education Institute Award, a Student Access Excellence Award, a Milton Plesur Excellence in Teaching Award and a UB Service Excellence Award.
Elias earned both a bachelor’s degree in computer science and an MBA from the University of Buffalo. He has served on several boards of directors, including the Chronicle of Higher Education Leadership Board for CIOs, the New York State Education and Research Network, Board Member, Dell Platinum Advisory Board and the New York Blackboard Advisory Board.
