Using Gatorlink Email

Accessing Gatorlink Email On The Web - Webmail

Checking your Gatorlink email is as simple as opening your browser (ie Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Firefox, etc) and visiting http://webmail.ufl.edu. Entering your gatorlink name and password will gain you access to the webmail service, which is an online application that allows you to view, compose and send email from any computer that has an internet connection.

The AT Help Desk has provided detailed information on UF Webmail, including webmail basics, creating an address book, and webmail personalization.

Accessing Gatorlink Email On Your Computer

The new policy does not affect students who would like to have external email accounts to forward to their Gatorlink account. Installation and usage instructions on this and other Gatorlink topics can be found on the AT Help Desk. In addition, a FAQ page is located on the Student Affairs site.

Gatorlink accounts can also be accessed by many different email programs such as Outlook Express, Thunderbird, and Eudora, among others. These programs can be downloaded off the internet, but if you would prefer a cd-rom, they can be picked up from the UF Bookstore Technology Hub, or on the web at http://www.circa.ufl.edu/cd-rom for a nominal fee.

Please note that these email programs can be used to consolidate and receive email from multiple sources, including external Internet Service Providers and free email services.

If you are familiar with email software configuration, use the following settings:

For the INCOMING mail server,

  1. Use IMAP (which stores your email on the server) and the server name imap.ufl.edu, OR
  2. Use POP (which stores the email on your computer) and the server name pop.ufl.edu.

For the OUTGOING mail server,

  1. If you are using a campus dialup or connection, use smtp.ufl.edu as the outgoing (or SMTP) mail server.
  2. If you are using UF's dialup, labs, walk-up ports or wireless network, use authenticated smtp.
  3. If you are using another Internet Service Provider, such as EarthLink, MindSpring, DSL, or Cable Modem, you can use authenticated smtp.ufl.edu outgoing mail service or your can use your provider's outgoing mail server name in your setup.
  4. If you are using DHNet Housing, see DHNet for SMTP settings.
