Preface

Network '99 began in late Fall 1993 as a project of the University of Florida Council on Information Technologies and Services (CITS) aimed at moving the University networking environment forward and as an outgrowth of the 1991 "Report of the Task Force on Information Technology Resources" goals and recommendations.  The specific goals of NET99 can be found in Appendix 1.  A summary of the Council's prior achievements related to the 1991 report can be found in Appendix 2. After a year of study by the Council and its standing committees, a series of recommendations has evolved to move the University's networking environment from the present to where it needs to be in 1999.   The remainder of this document presents and discusses these recommendations.
