Implementing UF IT Governance

Definition

IT Governance at UF is a collaborative structure that recommends policy, guidelines and standards relating to the allocation of IT resources.

Goals and Objectives

Implement the ITAP recommendation to create a common widely inclusive governance structure that integrates central and distributed IT, including the associated processes that help inform decision-making by UF leadership.

Specifically, to establish and define the scope and processes for:

  1. Governance structure, roles and responsibilities . Unit IT Councils and their integration these into the IT Governance structure. .
  2. The Topical Advisory Committees.
  3. An IT Policy Council between topical advisory committees and high level decision makers.

Deliverables

  1. Structure: The UF IT Governance structure aligned with the ITAP organizational and budgetary reorganization, with clearly defined roles, responsibilities, and accountability for IT inputs, assessments, and decision domains.
  2. Mechanisms: The decision making processes with well defined input and decision domains.
  3. Representation: The formal mechanisms to assure that faculty, staff, students, IT service providers, and partners are represented in the UF IT Governance structure.
  4. Engagement: Active, two-way, transparent and open communication mechanisms allowing for active participation in the IT Governance processes by all faculty, staff, students and partners.

Impact

UF IT Governance will lead to the effective allocation of IT resources to facilitate and improve education, research and business value, control costs and reduce risk.

Timeline

A plan for implementing the proposed IT Governance will be completed by August 2009. The work involved with the Governance implementation is scheduled to be completed by August 31, 2009.
